SKATING NOTES
DESCRIPTION OF SKATING PERFORMANCES
STOPS
T- STOPPING ON INLINE SKATES
  1. coast at a medium/low/high speed
  2. then  get into the scissor stance (roll one skating foot forward ),
  3.  later bend your front knee and put your body weight on it letting  your back leg be light.,  Keep those front wheels upright on a centre edge  and lean forward enough so that the front (leading) knee covers your skate when you look down..
  4. Your front skate will roll. When you have a skate and a half gap’ width distance between the leading and the trailing feet lift/raise up and turn out the toes of the trailing foot, so that the wheels of your skate are perpendicular to your direction of travel.
  5. Then, when you plant the trailing foot down you must apply some downward pressure with that foot and as you begin to slow into a stop, let your trailing catch up with your leading leg by dragging it until you've stopped. While doing this  dragging rear foot movement try to keep your head upright and your  shoulders back and facing forward (especially the opposite shoulder to the rear foot).
The  Forward V-Stop
  • Coasting forward at a moderate speed
  • Spread your feet so they are wider than shoulder-width apart.
  • Bend your knees, while pushing out slightly with your legs. This will cause friction and slow you down, then, bring your toes together and  make sure your toes face inward so that your feet don't come parallel, as this will compromise your balance or you keep moving.
  • Continue angling inward your skates and bending at the knees until stopped.
The  Backward V-Stop
  • Coasting backward at a moderate speed
  • Spread your feet so they are wider than  shoulder-width apart.
  • Bend your knees, put pressure on your inside edges while pushing out slightly with your legs. This will cause friction and slow you down, then, bring your heels together and  make sure your toes face outward so that your feet don't come parallel, as this will compromise your balance or you keep moving.
  • Continue angling outward your skates and bending at the knees until stopped.
  • Take a look over one shoulder when moving back
The Heel stop
·         Get into the scissor stance (roll the skating brake foot forward until the heel brake is even with the first front wheel of the other skate) with your brake skate (the skate with the heel brake) in front.
·         Tip/raise the toe of your brake skate up while bending your knee and lowering your bottom/ center of gravity, as if sitting. Send all your weight down through your heel and hold this position until you get the desired speed or a stop is achieved.

FORWARD TURNS
FORWARD PARALLEL TURN
·         Coasting at a moderate speed
·         If you want to turn to the Left, put your left  foot in front = Left turn, Right foot in front = Right turn.
·         Lean/Tilt your body  in the direction of the turn while keeping it upright.
·         The foot in front (leading skate) should be on a slight outside edge. The rear foot (trailing skate) should be on the inside edge.
FORWARD WEIGHT SHIFT TURN
·         Skate forward at a moderate or enough speed to gain forward drive
·         Coast, bend knees and put your feet parallel and shoulder width apart just a little before starting to turn.
·         Shift your weight on the outside foot of the turn by leaning your body to this side and placing your hands on the outside thigh.
·         Knees should be bent and you should also lower your centre of gravity
·         Be patient, do not raise your body up until the turn has been completed.
FORWARD CROSSOVERS 1ptg:
It involves crossing the outside skate  in front of and over the other skate for turning and pushing with the inner/inside skate before picking it up again and bringing it back together and parallel with the left. Place your body weight on the turning side while bending your knees and keeping your feet shoulder width apart.

BACKWARD TURNS
 BACKWARD SKATING

·       Adopt the “A” position (toes in)

·       Keep your body upright
·       Lift your right skate heel so that you stand on the toes of your right skate and bring your right skate heel in by turning on its front wheels without setting it down to gain drive.
·       Then, bring your right heel out by turning again on your right skate front wheels and plant the whole skate on the ground and push to the outside letting it glide by placing your body weight on this side. (then, do the same with the other skate) (Finally, the aim is to do it with both skates continuously.

BACKWARD PARALLEL TURN
·         Coasting backward gaining backward drive, with enough speed, at a moderate speed/Keep rolling/leave skating and assume extended position with one foot forward.
·         If you want to turn to the Left,  bring  your left  foot back  and lean your body forward into your turn side
·         Lean/Tilt your body  in the direction of the turn while keeping it upright.
·         The turn side skate should be on a slight outside edge. The other foot  should be on the inside edge.
·         When the turn is completed you can increase your speed by doing two or three backward crossover strides.
BACKWARD WEIGHT SHIFT TURN
·         skate backward at a moderate or enough speed to gain backward drive
·         coast, bend knees and put your feet parallel and shoulder width apart just a little before starting to turn.
·         Shift your weight on the outside foot of the turn by leaning your body to this side and placing your hands on the outside thigh.
·         Knees should be bent and you should also lower your center of gravity and keep your body upright
·         Be patient, do not raise your body up until the turn has been completed.
·         Do not leave one arm on the other side (counterweight)
·         Keep your feet parallel all the times, do not leave one trailing foot dragging.
BACWARD CROSSOVER
·         Coasting backward with feet shoulder width apart, knees bent and placing your body weight on your turn side.
·         Then, cross the outside foot in front and over the inside/inner foot by bringing its heel inward; Then, the inside foot should push back on the front wheels before being brought parallel with the other foot. The outside shoulder must be kept back to gain more stability and balance.

TRANSITIONS
180º DEGREE 1 MOVE BACKWARD TO FORWARD TRANSITION or 180º DEGREE HEEL TURN
·         Skate backwards
·         Coasting backward and keep your feet parallel and no more than shoulder width apart
·         To turn on your right side start by turning your right shoulder into your new direction. Then, lift both toes putting the pressure on your heels to turn 180º degree.
·         Finally, bend your trunk forward and also bend your knees to gain balance and stability.
180º DEGREE FORWARD TO BACKWARD TRANSITION or 180º DEGREE TOE TURN
·         Skate forward
·         Coasting forward and keep your feet parallel and no more than shoulder width apart
·         To turn on your right side start by turning your right shoulder into your new direction. Then, lift both heels putting the pressure (stay on) on your toes to turn 180º degree. (to make a 180º turn)
·         Finally, bring  your trunk back and keep it upright to gain balance and stability
REVERSE PIVOT
·         Skate forward
·         Coasting forward before starting to perform/do/make a parallel turn and when you are half way of the turn, shift your weight  back by pivoting on your toes after lifting your heels. Knees should be bent.
·         You must return to the starting point direction by skating backwards.
FORWARD PIVOT
·         Skate backwards
·         Stand on your inside foot/skate and lift your outside foot/skate
·         Shift your weight to the front and plant your outside skate pushing off to the outside.
